We had a very exciting week last week as we entered into a National Maths competition on Sumdog. That meant that our class needed to answer lots of questions correctly and spend as much time as possible answering them. At the end of the competition we came 23rd and had answered 8889 questions correctly. That's a lot of questions!
Incredible Room 12 - what an awesome team effort!

The Steamers Say "Bully Free Bro"
BFB= Bully Free Bro
On a beautiful spring day last week the lucky Year 4 and 5's from our school walked to the Rotorua Stadium to watch the Steamers Rugby Team train. Along with 500 other children from other Rotorua schools we had a fantastic time as not only did we see the team train but they gave us their signature and talked to everyone. We were lucky to have Panda for our guide. He and another player told us about their life and who inspires them to achieve so well. They also told us about being 'Bully Free Bro' and that bullying is not acceptable and definitely not cool. Steamy their mascot and one of the guys asked questions and then gave out amazing prizes like rugby balls, hats and drink bottles. Some of our class were lucky to get prizes. We all had a really enjoyable morning and returned to school happy, starving and with thoughts of trying really hard to achieve our goals. Go the Steamers!

Fish And Chips...
Friday was Fish and Chip Day at Westbrook School. It was very exciting to think that we were going to have fish and chips for lunch on a cold winter's day. Then the taste.........they were delicious!

An Awesome Example of Endeavour
We were very,very fortunate to have Peter come to talk to us about his mountain biking trip. He rode from Banff in Canada to the Mexican border in 22 days without any help from anyone. Peter rode in a race called the Tour Divide which is a distance of 4418kms. While he was riding Peter had a GPS on him so people could track his progress. We had lots of fun checking out where he was everyday and learnt lots about maps and the areas where he was riding. Peter showed us his bike, showed us photos and talked to us about his trip. We were all very fascinated to find out how he survived such a long ride. Even though he told us lots we still had many, many questions to ask him. Thankfully he was able to spend enough time with us to answer many of them. We have been thinking about what Peter had to do and what new things he had to learn about in order for his endeavour to succeed. Thanks for inspiring us to go for our goals Peter.
Good luck for your next endeavour. We'll be there to support you.

These fabulous bikes are an example of the bikes which were drawn as part of our study on Connections. The children observed a bike carefully and then used pastels to add colour with an emphasis on learning how to blend colours effectively. Many thanks to Mrs Bright for helping the children to create their masterpieces.
